I bought a tripod to take pictures of Sarah's Christmas lights and it has increased my interest in photography. I love taking pictures of sunsets with the tripod and a slow shutter speed. Here are a few. Notice the ghost image of Robbie in the first pic.

I like the second one. What are you shooting on?
By the way, you asked about uke and mando. Both different beasts...but you will probably excel at both. Mandolin is strung in fifths....like a cello (G, D, A, E) and a uke is high G then C E A. The uke is easier I think. It wants to play songs in the key of C (you could play the "wonderful world" song in about 30 seconds after picking the thing up.)
The mando wants to play in G or D. Scales and chords are a little funky on the mando, but the frets are so close together that once you have it figured out, you can let your fingers fly.
You could probably get both for about $100 on Musician's Friend. I have the Rogue mando that is $49 and it sounds pretty good. It's a good starter.
Very long comment, but I always love geeking about gear. Are you ever coming back to a church soon? Could use a bass player/guitarist that knows what they are doing.
